It is going to be insane!

Jim and Brad in the booth before the 2008 playoff game
It is going to be an insane week in Las Cruces, New Mexico. On Saturday, the Las Cruces Bulldawgs and the Mayfield Trojans will battle for the New Mexico Class 5A state championship in football. It is typical for the regular season finale between these two schools to draw upwards of 25,000-27,000 fans. And the last time the two teams met in the playoffs was back in 2008 when LCHS beat MHS and went on to win the state championship.
I was called into emergency play-by-play duty for that game. Former all-state Trojan Brad Beasley (our current CPA) joined me in the broadcast booth and we had a blast while regular PBP guy Jeff Matthews was off at Utah State doing an Aggie football game.

LCHS and MHS playing before a packed house

Since 1995 Mayfield has won seven state championships in football and LCHS has won five times. The Bulldawgs are the defending state champions this year though Mayfield snapped their eighteen game winning streak last month. I expect thirty thousand people to be in the stands on Saturday.
