Still, you hear well-known people making bogus claims about climate "science" strictly for political reasons. Both John Kerry and Barack Obama head a long list of politicians who use the term "climate change" as a way to affirm and connect with people who hate fossil fuels so much they want the government to take actions that will surely make poor people poorer. Why? So they can claim they have "saved the planet."
Over the weekend there was a very simple straight forward op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal that uses facts to spell out the reality of the often cited "97% of experts consensus" regarding man-caused global warming. The reality is the 97% consensus is a MYTH. You can read the article here.
Below, we will paraphrase what the two scientist authors say. However, for starters, know that authors Joseph Bast and Roy Spencer are real scientists, not debate squelching hucksters who are busy hustling various governments out of billions of dollars in grants that practically require them to fabricate data and perform flawed analysis to reach pre-determined conclusions. Mr. Bast is president of the Heartland Institute. Dr. Spencer is a principal research scientist for the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on NASA's Aqua satellite.
These men spell out in great detail all of the frequently cited sources for the so-called consensus that does not exist. They point out that of all the various petitions on global warming circulated for signatures by scientists, the one by the Petition Project, a group of physicists and physical chemists based in La Jolla, Calif., has by far the most signatures—more than 31,000 including more than 9,000 with a Ph.D. This real consensus was most recently published in 2009, and most signers were added or reaffirmed since 2007. The petition states that "there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of . . . carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate."
There are two points here. First, there is no basis for the typical progressive's claim that 97% of scientists agree that man-made climate change is a dangerous problem. Second, Barack Obama and John Kerry head up a political party (Democrats) who embrace lies and distortions of facts like mothers embrace their young.
No wonder the U.S. economy stinks.
No wonder the U.S. economy stinks.
This asinine notion that man caused CO2 is warming the planet constitutes the greatest ruse inflicted upon civilization since the day 97% of all people thought the world was flat. During that era, in some places it was a crime to publicly state otherwise.
